Heart failure is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, affecting 64.3 million patients globally. Fifty percent of patients die within the first five years after diagnosis, and in 70% of cases the disease originates from ischemic events such as acute myocardial infarction.

Current treatments include pharmacological therapies, angioplasty, bypass surgery, and transplants; however, none of them reverse or repair the damaged heart muscle. As a result, patients develop scar tissue that permanently compromises cardiac function, limits quality of life, and generates significant and recurring medical costs. Approximately 400,000 bypass surgeries are performed annually in the United States alone—a procedure aimed at restoring blood flow without regenerating the affected tissue.

Amnova Biotech is developing an injectable hydrogel inspired by the biological properties of human birth tissue. The platform is based on a cell-free bioactive formulation designed to recreate key regenerative signals associated with these tissues.

When delivered locally to the injured heart, the hydrogel aims to improve the cardiac microenvironment by supporting vascularization, modulating inflammation, and promoting tissue repair.

Animal studies, including a preclinical myocardial infarction model in sheep, have demonstrated promising results at 28 days post-treatment, significantly improving cardiac function, reducing infarct size, and increasing neovascularization and cardiac cell proliferation.
