CITES Works in the development of four technological areas:





It is all technological application that uses biological systems or living organisms or their derivates for the creation or modification of products and processes in specific uses. These applications constitute what is known as traditional biotechnology, based on the use of products from the metabolism of certain microorganisms. The
denomination modern biotechnology, on its part, uses techniques of genetic engineering to modify and transfer gens from one organism to another. Biotechnological applications in our country have been developed in different productive sectors: human and animal health, agriculture and cattle raising, as well as production supplies for food industry.




It is the study, design, creation, synthesis, manipulation and application of materials, devices and functional system through the control of matter in a nano scale (one millionth of a millimeter) and the exploitation of phenomena and properties that matter presents at this scale, ruled, mainly by the quantitative effects. We work at atoms and molecules level, to generate new materials, which allows the creation of a big amount of applications in many different areas such as medicine, electronic, cosmetics, computing, drugs, garment, and agrochemicals, among many others. The tendency in current industry is to improve products by the use of nanotechnology, more than to the creation of new nanoproducts. Nowadays, there are more than 100 (one hundred) companies using nanotechnology in Argentina and there are hundreds of researchers committed to discover the new opportunities that processes at nanometric scale provide.




The word engineering comes from Latin “ingenium”, term that refers both to machines and devices created by men and the wit necessary to conceive and develop them. In modern definition, an engineer is a professional who basically resolves problems. To do so, they use different tools which are many times based on the application of hard sciences and scientific method, but which sometimes involve experience and intuition, always mixing wit and responsibility. The secret of engineering resides in solving each problem using the right tool. The kind of problem that engineering resolves it is almost always related to the optimization: not only must a solution be found, but it also has to be optimal in technical and economic terms. The expert judgment of an engineer consists in examining the technical qualities of a certain design or model according to the feasibility of its implementation and the associated costs. An engineer must optimize at the same quality, costs and terms. At the Engineering Laboratory of CITES we know which the right tools for solving the right problems are and we specialize in finding optimal technical-economic solutions applying the innovative engineering concept.




It is the science that studies treatment, representation and automatic and rational handling of information. It is said that treatment is automatic for being machines the ones that carry out the capture, process and presentation tasks of information, and rational because the whole process is defined by programs that follow human reasoning. Computing is based on the handling of big data basis and the fast execution of
high complexity calculations. It stars from the study of computers, their basic principles and their use. Currently, computing has so many applications that it is almost inconceivable to think that there may be an activity where it is not present. Within Latin America, Argentina has a prominent place in software industry, being one of the most dynamic sectors and with a higher rate for generating new exporting SMEs.
